AJBT/JBT Board of Directors

Like all staff members, the Journal Board of Directors is comprised entirely of volunteers who give of their time and skills to encourage the successful research of other biblical scholars.  The international flavor of the Journal is reflected in its staff, and the Board is no different, drawing its scholars from Canada, Nigeria, and the United States.  The Board is charged with making the decisions concerning the direction, content, and context of the on-line American Journal of Biblical Theology and the quarterly hardcopy Journal of Biblical Theology.  The Board also serves as the review staff for the JBT.  You may contact any Board member by clicking on their name.


Dr. John W. (Jack) Carter

Jack received an A.A.S. from the State University of New York, a B.S. and M.S. from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary.  He spent 30 combined years as a university professor at The University of Memphis, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, and UNC Charlotte, retiring in 2006 to a full-time pastorate.  Jack also served as a pastor/associate pastor/minister of music and education in various Southern Baptist fellowships during those university years  "Semi-retired" in 2022, Jack now enjoys spending time with five grandchildren, travel, and work on the American Journal of Biblical Theology as its publisher, general editor, and chair of the board of directors. Avid bogey golfer.  Jack is the author of The Disciple's Bible Commentary as well as many other books and journal articles.

Dr. John Roskoski

John graduated from Seton Hall University with a B.A. in Religious Studies (1981) and an M.A. from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in Theology (1986), an M.A. from Seton Hall University in Jewish-Christian Studies (1990), an MPHIL from Fordham University in Biblical Studies (2004), and a PhD from Omega Bible Institute in Biblical Studies (2006). John has embraced the Evangelical tradition regarding biblical interpretation because he is a staunch advocate of biblical Inerrancy. His major area of concentration has been the Old Testament, with a particular focus on the Samson Narratives. John serves as a Professor of Theology, Exposition and Exegesis, Omega Bible Institute, St. Peter's College, Jersey City, New Jersey.  His most recent text is Beyond The Headlights: Donning the Mantle of Disability, an inspirational work available on Amazon.com.

Dr. Scott Ventureyra

B.A., B.S.S., B.Th., M.Th., Th.D. Scott Ventureyra earned a doctorate in theology from Carleton University-Dominican University College in 2017. He has published in academic journals such as Science et Esprit, The American Journal of Biblical Theology, Studies in Religion, Dialogue: Canadian Philosophical Review and Maritain Studies (the journal of the Canadian Jacques Maritain Association). He has also written for magazines such as Crisis, Catholic Insight and Convivium and newspapers such as The National Post, City Light News, The Ottawa Citizen and The Times Colonist. He is the author of On the Origin of Consciousness: An Exploration through the Lens of the Christian Conception of God and Creation published by Wipf and Stock (November 2018):   His website is: www.scottventureyra.com.

Dr. Olugbenga Olagunju

Dr. Olagunju earned a B.Sc. Soils from University of Ibadan in 1991 and an M. DIv in Theologhy from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Louisville KY: Ogbomosho Campus in 1995. and a Masters in religion at the
university of Ghana in 2012, the MTh and Ph.D. in New Testament languages and literature in 2004 and 2010 respectively. He is a fellow of the Stephen Olford Center for biblical preaching Memphis TN and also a member of the NTSSA, EABS AND SBL . He currently serves as an Associate Professor of New Testament Languages and Literature in the Faculty of Theological Studies, Department of Biblical Studies of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomosho and the Rector, Baptist College of Theology, Igede-Ekiti, Nigeria

Dr. Jimmy Arthur Atkins

Dr. Jimmy Arthur Atkins is Founder and Senior Pastor of True Worship Christian Fellowship in Cary, North Carolina. He is a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, University of Delaware, and Regent University where he earned his doctorate in strategic leadership. Atkins is an Associate Professor of Management at Pfeiffer University and a Fellow in the Higher Education Leadership Foundation. He is also a Visiting Scholar at the University of Applied Science in Fulda, Germany. Atkins has written and published in The Living Pulpit, Ministry International Journal for Pastors, and The Journal of Biblical Theology. His latest book, Leading Strategic Community Change: A Primer for Pastors, Church Boards, and Executive Ministry Teams is available on Amazon.com.

Dr. Steve Mathews

Dr. Steve Mathews graduated from Florida Baptist Theological College with a B.A. in theology. His master's degrees include an M.A. in philosophy from Trinity Theological Seminary, an M.Div. from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, and an M.B.A. from Liberty University. He earned the D.Min. in pastoral ministry from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, the Ph.D. in biblical and religious studies from the University of Pretoria, the D.Min. in leadership from Forge Theological Seminary, and a post-doctoral certificate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served as pastor of churches in Florida and North Carolina since 1997, and has taught on the faculties of several colleges, seminaries, and universities..
